Red Sand Project

Key Partners:  Multiple Contra Costa cities including Martinez and Antioch have hosted Red Sand events.

Team Lead:  Claudia

The Red Sand Project is an international, participatory art exhibit helping communities spread awareness of human trafficking. The Alliance facilitates bringing the Red Sand Project to cities and institutions across the County.  By filling cracks in sidewalks and streets with red sand and using #RedSandProject, participants provide a visual disruption to passersby, hopefully sparking curiosity and further learning about this issue.

Community Days Of Action

Key Partners:  Multiple jurisdictions and cities in Contra Costa have hosted Community or SB1193 Days of Action

Team Lead: Claudia & Hisham

The Alliance hosts “Days of Action” to enforce Senate Bill 1193 (SB1193). This law, which was passed in 2013, requires specified businesses including airports, train stations, truck stops, certain bars, urgent care centers, farm labor contractors, and certain massage parlors to post notices listing information about human trafficking and a hotline number for the National Human Trafficking Resource Center. During “Days of Action” volunteers gather together with members of law enforcement, and in small teams, visit specified businesses - providing them with posters that include hotline numbers to seek help, in addition to information on how to recognize human trafficking.
