The Story of Sameera: The complex relationship between abused immigrant women & the community & systems that are meant to help them

Hosted by Praxis International

Join us for a national screening of The Story of Sameera, followed by a discussion of advocacy strategies in the face of anti-immigrant bias.

The Story of Sameera is a compelling 8-minute video that dramatizes the experiences of an abused immigrant women when she unwillingly becomes involved with systems designed to help her.

Meet Sameera, a recent immigrant to the U.S. who is not yet fluent in English. When a neighbor calls 911 after her husband abuses her, Sameera faces incredible challenges navigating multiple systems while balancing the powerful influences of family and community.

The Story of Sameera raises awareness by challenging the current dangerous climate that fosters fear and vulnerability among many immigrant survivors. This video is an invaluable tool to promote action to keep immigrant women and children safe.
